DEMAND Lawmakers Abolish ALL Puppy Mills/Enact Felony Bill. Will You Help?

If you saw a dog with nothing to eat but insect infested food, would you help?
If you saw a dog locked in a cage with many other dogs and no room to move, would you help?
If you saw a dog having his/her vocal cords crushed by someone shoving a metal bar down their throat, would you help?
If you saw a dog held prisoner 24/7 in the cold, the dark, the heat - inside or outside - with nothing to stand on but chicken wire, would you help?
If you saw a dog being murdered by drowning, shooting and various other heinous ways, would you help?

             and make Puppy Mills ILLEGAL and a FELONY CRIME.

The only purpose of Puppy Mills is to make money for the proprietors. Greed over animal welfare is a reality. There is absolutely no reason to keep breeding puppies when millions are euthanized yearly from shelters. Puppy Mills create a never ending cycle of intake and death. People often dump puppy mill dogs when they discover the dog has behavioral and health problems, which would require expensive medical care. They also have many genetic defects due to inbreeding.

Lancaster, Pennsylvania (Amish country) is considered the Puppy Mill Capitol of the United States. The Amish who run these mills are despicable people. They have no feelings whatsoever for the animals. They consider them as livestock (imagine how they treat their "livestock" and horses - also important sentient beings that have emotions and feel pain as people do), and a lucrative business. They purport to live as "simple people" eschewing modern living and technology. This is a lie. They use the internet to deceivingly advertise their puppies for sale by calling it "adoption." They also hold auctions and sell to pet stores. 99% of puppies in stores are from Puppy Mills.

The Amish also operate Puppy Mills in Holmes County, Ohio and Shipshewana, Indiana. In Pennsylvania alone, there are 300 licensed Puppy Mills and an estimated 600 unlicensed Puppy Mills, that operate in secret out of barns and sheds. To prevent detection by rescuers, they crush the vocal cords of the dogs so they can't bark and be discovered. Sadly, most of the females, (the Mom dogs) never make it out of these mills, unless they are rescued. They are continuously bred (forced impregnation) for approximately 2 years. When they can no longer produce puppies and their bodies are broken and they are sickly, they are murdered. These dogs never see the sun, never are loved or cared for, never get to play or have a toy, never get any exercise, never have any Vet care. The Amish & Mennonite farmers can have 500-600 dogs in a barn and make upward of a 1/2 MILLION dollars per farmer, per year.

You may be surprised to learn that in the United States dogs are still classified as property or chattel. That means in the eyes of the law they have no greater value than your furniture or any other inanimate object you possess. France and Canada have recently re-classified dogs (also other animals) as Sentient Beings - sensitive, emotional beings that require nurturing and respect, which grants them many of the same rights as children.

Both State & Federal standards consider dogs to be agricultural products. The USDA, tasked with inspecting Puppy Mills and protecting animals are also promoters of Agriculture (which is big business with powerful lobbyists.) The USDA promotes Agriculture, a glaring conflict of interest since they have no compunction to prosecute farmers who operate Puppy Mills as side businesses. 21 States in the U.S. have no laws on the books regulating commercial dog breeders. Incredibly, the USDA was founded in 1862 and signed into law by President Lincoln who called the USDA "The People's Department." The USDA was geared towards the interest of farmers who comprised 50% of the population. Today, farmers comprise only 2%.

            This petition proposes to accomplish the following:

• Demand Legislators who have the power to stop puppy mills (including thousands of non-Amish mills), do so immediately.

• Pass legislation to enact Felony Crime status.
• Demand Legislators enact a NATIONAL REGISTRY for abuse,  cruelty, torture, and murder of dogs.

• Demand Legislators re-classify dogs as SENTIENT BEINGS and  remove them from the control of the compromised USDA.

• Boycott the Amish. Boycott everything they sell, not just puppies. Boycott them until they get out of the Puppy Mill business.

                     Puppy Mills are horrific, vile, and evil businesses.

                            We must abolish every last one of them.
