Drivers in Bishop's Stortford are braced for parking "chaos" after a 300-space car park next to the railway station announced it was being shut down.

Station Car Parking, which opened in 2011, has been served notice by landowners Network Rail and will close on February 28.

Local companies and commuters have been left with little notice with regards to the closure of Goods Yards Car Park in Bishop Stortford. Many companies in this area are left with no other options for parking. Some companies have suggested going as far as moving to different premises and leaving the area which will have a detrimental effect on local business and restaurants.

We ask that the council offer alternative parking solutions to the 300+ customers of Goods Yard Car Park or rethink their decision to sell the land.

NOTE:

To my knowledge all of the 3 car parks are due to be removed and built on, resulting in the closure of 700 car parking spaces. In its place will be apartments, hotel and a 400 space car park. This does not add up!

On a side note the car park mentioned as a replacement is not due to be built on for at least a year. The proposed Multi-storey is due to be built in Phase 1 on the NCP car park directly opposite the station (this is a separate car park to the one mentioned above). Surely it would make more sense to keep the private car park open until the multistorey is complete, then people could switch between the two?!
