Please sign and share this petition in an effort to protect the main habitat of the Carnaby's Black Cockatoos in Australia. Along with conservationists, we are trying to encourage the federal government in an effort to keep this species of cockatoo from becoming extinct by preserving their habitat.

Bird Life Australia conservationist discovered that only about 3922 Carnaby's Black Cockatoos currently exist in the large Gnangara pine plantation, north of Perth. These numbers show that only about 10 percent of this endangered species lives throughout global populations. The Western Australian government has been clearing the 23,000 hectare (57,000 acre) plantation to protect Perth’s water catchment area due to the amount of water the trees require.

Bird Life Australia says that this revamping of the area is a “catastrophic” clearing will hasten the Carnaby’s black cockatoo’s extinction. The decline in the Carnaby's Black Cockatoos population has been declining by about 15 percent annually. The animal started moving to the Perth pine plantations in the 1950s, but now its home, which it relies upon for food and nesting, is to be razed. They now prefer the large Gnangara pine plantation. But the government has been clearing native vegetation that the species of bird relies on, threatening the cockatoos.

A spokesperson for the Bird Life Australia states that “These birds have been required to rely on these plantations and now it is critical habitat for them. Cockies can move around to other trees but the problem is they are clearing the whole area. Perth people love their birds and this is an iconic species. They are cool birds, noisy and bold. We need the state and federal government to take urgent action over this." We need to encourage the federal government and West Australia government to stop the destruction of the habitat where the Carnaby's Black Cockatoos rely; otherwise they will become extinct.
