A grieving mother dog refused to leave her deceased puppy after both were thrown from a car at a dumping site near Watsonville, California, on Friday, reported Monday's KTVU News. According to results from a necropsy, the pup, who like her mother, had been secured in a sand bag before being dumped, died from blunt force trauma.
When animal control found the pair, the surviving dog was frightened, but unwilling to leave the side of her deceased pup. Officer Todd Stosuy noted that the mother dog would not stop crying after being loaded into the car...that is, until the body of her puppy was retrieved and placed next to her.
The mother's devotion to her deceased pup continued - the veterinarian who performed the necropsy allowed the dog to be present during the procedure. The mother would occasionally walk to her pup and lick its face before leaving to sit next to the veterinarian.
Officials with the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter are hoping to find the individual(s) responsible for the cruel act which claimed the pup's life. The incident took place on Minto Road in the Green Valley area. The surviving dog is described as a sable Miniature Pinscher who is estimated to be six years of age; the pup who died was only four to six weeks of age.
-- All dogs JUST want to love and be loved in return. This is an extremely unacceptable way to treat animals. No matter how much a dog is abused, he/she will only know how to love. No matter how much cruelty he/she is experiencing, a dog will only remain loyal. Dogs should NOT be treated this way. Would you want to be treated this way?! The law against Animal Abusers/Cruelty needs to be more strict and must be enforced. There needs to be punishment for those who abuse that law because this is a crime point blank! We cannot close our eyes and ears and pretend to not see or hear about the bad things that happen. We must be the change that we wish to see in this world. They do so much for us and even help save lives so we must protect them in return.
