Petco's advertising is based on the relationship between people and their pets- all types of animals. The PETCOnnection. I was dismayed recently when I saw two people leaving a store swinging a small box and laughing. Realizing that the box likely contained a rodent, I asked the Petco employee if in fact, they sold feeder mice. He responded that "Yes, we do.", and my heart sank as I realized the fate of the mouse in the carrier box. I turned around and left the store, unwilling to condone their policy and I headed off to Petsmart as they do not engage in the practice of selling live mammals for food.
There are alternatives for people who own snakes; feeding a reptile by placing a live mouse (with no chance of survival) into its aquaruim/enclosure is not their only option. I can't imagine how the mouse feels, knowing it can't escape when coming face to face with a predator.
Please join me in asking Petco to reconsider their policy.
Thank you!
