Stop the Speeding Now with a Stop Sign at Neil and Bogart Avenues in the Bronx

The corner of Neil and Bogart Avenues in the Morris Park section of the Bronx has proven to be a dangerous crossway for pedestrians. Hundreds of families with young children face the potential of getting mauled down by speeding cars on a daily basis at that intersection. Parents taking their children to and from school consistently find themselves dodging vehicles and sprinting across the street to safely traverse the area. With a simple stop sign, the potential for accidents and, quite possibly, death could be avoided. Drivers seem to feel the need for speed, because no signal light or stop sign bars them from taking precautions at that corner.

We can “stop” the speeding, now, and make it a safe street for students and their families to walk, by adding a stop sign! Some may argue that streets have become too pedestrian-friendly with the addition of bike lanes and pedestrian-safe zones; however, most of those sections have been focused on boroughs other than the Bronx. And, while the number of deaths by car accidents has significantly decreased in New York in the past few years, we can further add to the safety of our streets and lower that statistic even more by putting a stop sign at a precarious intersection. Please add a stop sign at Neil and Bogart Avenue!
