End Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotic resistance will lead to the widespread infection of people with untreatable bacterial diseases that can be fatal. Many people when they get sick think that they need antibiotics to get better, but many times they are sick with a virus and the use of antibiotics will only harm everyone involved. The unneeded use of antibiotics can kill off our bodies normal flora and went is happens surviving bacteria can reproduce and become resistant to antibiotics, and be stronger than before. This change in the body of which bacteria are now present and the bacteria that has now adapted could set the stage for an opportunistic infection caused by the over liberal use of antibiotics. However over conservative use of antibiotics can also cause antibiotic resistance. Many times patients do need to be treated with antibiotics because they are suffering from a bacterial infection. Sometimes however the symptoms of the infection may subside before the patient has finished their antibiotics and so they will stop taking them. When people stop taking their antibiotics as prescribed many times not all of the bacteria is dead, the bacteria that is still alive can become resistant to antibiotics and reinfect you along wt other people you infect. So there becomes a vicious cycle of increasingly resistant bacteria that becomes extremely difficult and in time impossible to treat.

Physicians who prescribe antibiotics should be more educated on the widespread effect that antibiotic overuse can have, and they should be held accountable for their actions. Patients should be more educated on the effects of antibiotics, and they should be encouraged to always question the prescription of antibiotics by their health provider.

With every prescription for antibiotics there should also be some form of information on the effects antibiotics can have on everyone not just the person who uses them.
