Josh Trank's reboot of the superhero franchise the Fantastic Four has garnered some of the most negative reviews of the year. But like other films such as BLADE RUNNER, ALIEN 3, and NIGHTBREED; FANTASTIC FOUR was plagued with studio interference. Released with re-shoots and a whole second act missing, this is clearly not the film that the cast and crew signed up for. Judging from interviews with the filmmaker, actors, and evidence within the film itself, FANTASTIC FOUR was meant to be a mature Science-Fiction film that dealt with the themes of family and realistically explore what it would be like to have superpowers. Something that most modern summer blockbusters dare to strive for.
