British billion-dollar company Serco has lobbied the US for more than a year to open a detention center at the US-Mexico border, and may finally be getting its way.

According to the Guardian, the company is proposing to turn a defunct nursing home in Jim Wells County, Texas, into a family detention center. It would hold up to 600 people and would become the 3rd privately-managed detention center in the US.

Immigrants are human beings and should not be detained in these atrocious facilities, essentially prisons, that making profit off of people who are just for trying to find more economic opportunities, escape violence, and have a better life.

Serco lobbyists and five Jim Well County Commissioners have agreed to pitch the proposal to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for final approval.

These centers would hold men, women and children. Local officials are praising the effort as creating jobs, but this is a total sham: economists agree that allowing free and open immigration actually INCREASES job opportunities for all. The job opportunities this one center would create pale in comparison to the economic boom that open borders would be for our country.
