Please sign and share this petition on all media sites in an effort to gain justice for several deceased and ill horses due to contaminated food. The horses were at a Boarding facility and it was not due to the negligence of those running it but the company, Lakeland Animal Nutrition that supplies the feed. They need to go beyond an apology and compensate the devastated owners of these horses through paid vet bills, pain and suffering.
News hit recently of several horses that died with others ill in the Davie, Florida area at the Masterpiece Equestrian Center. When examined by a veterinarian, it appears that all 19 animals were in distress with their organs quickly shutting down. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the animals were poisoned by feed tainted with an antibiotic steroid called Monensin that was designed for livestock. The problem is that officials state that Monensin should not be associated with horse feed or horses at all!
As a result of these findings, it appears that the feed company, Lakeland Animal Nutrition, gave the horses toxic feed. This company apparently makes cow feed and pig feed on certain days, proceeding to make the horse feed using all the same equipment. Foods with the antibiotic is appropriate for certain livestock but hazardous for horses. Three of the horses at the Masterpiece Equestrian Center died from the tainted food due to heart and renal failure. Many others are seriously ill.
The Lakeland Animal Nutrition Company did immediately place a recall on the food and were cooperating in the investigation although they have currently left the horse feed business, sticking strictly with livestock feeds only. We are asking them to do more for these horses and their owners affected by the bad feed by taking more accountability; compensate the owners for vet bills, pain and suffering. Lakeland Animal Nutrition Company - You need to take full responsibility and accountability for the deceased and ill horses at the Masterpiece Equestrian Center due to tainted feed from your facility. It was determined that the same equipment you use to process livestock feed is also used to process horse feed, possibly subjecting the animals to the antibiotic that is fatal to their existence. However these animals were subjected with the Monensin, it was from the foods you provided them and your responsibility for the deaths and continuing illnesses. Take further accountability and compensate all of the horse owners with any medical expenses, vet bills, pain, suffering and any other expenses involved. Be a voice for these animals that do not have one and step up!
