Care2: Add a Report Button

Care2 has a fantastic record as a platform for corporate responsibility: In particular, it has been the host of many petitions demanding "report" buttons and similar functions, allowing users of major websites some protection from abuse or intentionally misleading information.

This petition requests that Care2 meet its own standards and include a "report" function on all petitions. The current system, while fantastic for allowing all Care2 members to quickly and simply start a petition on an issue they feel strongly about, can easily be abused.

For example, a Care2 petition earlier this year decried Google for reading its users' gmail messages. This is, in itself, a perfectly valid complaint. However, the creator of that petition was Outlook.com, an arm of Microsoft and a direct corporate competitor to Google. This petition, despite receiving nearly 220,000 signatures from Care2 members, was nothing more than a business ploy. A little research reveals that Microsoft is guilty of exactly the same actions as Google, yet as Care2 does not allow petitions to be reported, there was no way to pull this biased misuse of a petition, which was nothing more than corporate propaganda.

We only ask that Care2 meets the same standards that it constantly seeks to uphold in others. Keep Care2 progressive and member-led, and don't allow corporate entities or any other individuals to use Care2 petitions for propaganda.

Update #19 years ago
Hello everyone!

I want to thank you for signing my petition, and for all of your supportive comments. This is clearly an issue that has occurred to many of us – and could be solved so easily!

Now I would like to ask you one more favour; could you please share this petition in any way that you can? Our target is actually rather small - Care2 has promised to help "boost" any petition with 300+ signatures, which means we're almost half-way there already.

Thanks for anything you can do.
