In the UK people can have abortions at any stage of there pregnancies up to 24 weeks. This is inhumane as babies that are born at 22 weeks survive outside of the womb. Abortion can be necessary but I believe it should be done earlier for the following reasons:
- Babies born at 22 weeks survive so you are killing a baby that could quite possibly live if born then and be healthy and happy.
- The longer you leave the abortion the more it hurts the baby.
- It encourages people to be more laid back about abortion and use it as a form of contreception because they do not have to 'worry' about getting to see a doctor for a long time.
These are just a few of the reasons why abortion should not be legal above 12 weeks gestation. However I am only making the point about healthy pregnancies. If the mother or baby is to be put at life threatning risk this is a different matter entirley.
