Save our Springwater Provincial Park

Parks Canada is reducing the number of operational parks as of April 1st, 2013, due to environmental budget cuts. The current Ontario government says making Springwater Park non-operational will save $100,000 a year of provincial money.

"The Liberal government's environmental cuts hurt Simcoe County. This park is an important part of our region. We have a federal cenotaph in the park and I worry not only would they close a beautiful park our city loves, but it would be disrespectful to the Canadian heroes and veterans honoured at that cenotaph," according to MP Patrick Brown

The federal government also earlier last year cut parks funding. Environment Minister Peter Kent defended $52 million in projected Parks Canada cuts, prompted he said by declining visits.

Our family and many other locals feel this  park which is 107 years old is worth saving for our future generations and we are hoping for your support as well. By keeping it operational, the maintenance, playgrounds and animal sanctuary are beneficial to all who visit. Due to to growth of the city of Barrie, it won't be long before this land with 100 year old pine trees could be sold off for development.

There has to be an alternative to the operations ceasing. Please sign our petition so Kathleen Wynne will support our local park in remaining protected. You can also email her directly: premier@premier.gov.on.ca

Thank you for your support!
