Petition for CAS Graduation Time-Change

The time of 7pm for the CAS graduation ceremony has caused complaints among students and families of graduates. It is argued that 7pm is inconvenient for the following reasons:

• Inconvenience in family members’ ability to attend the graduation

• Inconvenience for celebrating after the ceremony with family and friends

• Inconvenience for photo-taking opportunities (lack of sunlight or time after ceremony to take time for photos)

• There is a large number of CAS graduates, making this choice of school for this time slot unreasonable when compared to other schools within the University

• Unfair when compared to other schools within American University, who have the pleasure of graduating during the day

• Parking is not as large a priority as graduating at a decent time when family members can arrive, students’ friends can see each other’s graduations, and photo-taking opportunities are equal

By signing this petition, you agree to one or more of the following statements:

“I am more concerned with graduating at a time during daylight rather than parking restrictions”

“I believe the time of 7pm is unfair and unjust to the CAS community, as it is inconvenient for one or more of the statements above”

“I am disappointed with the University’s decision to choose CAS for this time slot, as it will negatively impact my graduation experience”
