Recently the Oil industry has been putting pressure on the EPA to reconsider it's mandate for biofuel. Currently as it stands the EPA has a deadline of June 30th for refineries to blend 6 million gallons of cellulosic biofuel into the nation's fuel supply. Naturally two of the biggest oil companies,the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers and the American Petroleum Institute — "petitioned the EPA back in October to reconsider the requirement". Gina McCarthy has said their case met criteria for granting a petition. In others words, they're going to look into it.
This will be the second time Big Oil has gotten away with better this. Naturally, the mandate of biofuel in the American economy means a cut of Big oil's fuel market/profits. Any refinery falling short of this mandage will have to pay extra on credits.
As it stands, the new biofuel is not just corn based, but rather made with "plant waste". This new biofuel could just be the next step in finally ridding America of it's oil dependency, while switching to an enviormentally safer fuel. Another side effect is that gas price goes down and Big Oil loses some profit as it stops destroying our planet. Do we really need another oil spill?
