Support the Traveling Exotic Animal Protection Act

  • by: Animal Advocates
  • recipient: House Committee on Agriculture, Chairman Rep. Frank Lucas, Ranking Member Rep Collin Peterson

Bill HR 3359, seeks to amend the Animal Welfare Act to restrict the use of exotic and non-domesticated animals in traveling circuses and exhibitions. It is called the Traveling Exotic Animal Protection Act.

Circuses do not provide captive animals with a humane standard of care that requires the creation of natural habitats, ample area for exercise and socialization, appropriate diets, and suitable climatic controls. They do not protect endangered species, provide education about the animals, or foster compassion. They exploit animals for human entertainment and economic gain.

Further, some circuses use abusive training techniques including whips, bullhooks, chains, clubs, and electric shock to force animals to perform out of fear of punishment. Act swiftly on this legislation to protect animals in traveling circuses with amended restrictions and support HR 3359.
