Don't Tax our Periods! Help Get Rid of the Tax on Women's Menstrual Hygiene Products

The Labour Party in Australia has pledged to end the GST on tampons and menstrual pads in the upcoming budget proposals, according to a report in The Guardian.

Right now, Australian women spend close to $300m on sanitary products.

The Guardian reports that "All state Labor treasurers have pledged to support the removal of the goods and services tax on tampons, locking in their positions before a meeting with their federal Liberal counterpart Joe Hockey. ... The federal treasurer promised campaigners in May that he would raise the idea with all state and territory treasurers at their next major meeting."

The state treasurers say that removal of the 10% GST from tampons and pads “is about fairness”.

Let's support this and get rid of the tax on tampons and our periods! Will you join me in urging the Federal Treasurer, Joe Hockey, to get rid of the GST on all menstrual hygiene products?
