The aim of this petition is to ensure that Sunset Beach does not become the new location for functions. Given the status and location of this lovely little suburb, its not difficult for this trend to take off. The beautiful houses, many of them being mansions, get sold by privately owned residents and turned into lucrative guest houses. This is not the problem... We welcome upmarket Guest Houses.
Hosting a function in a guest house / or similar business in Sunset Beach is illegal. This however does not stop these venues from doing so.
There has been an increased trend for residents to turn their guesthouses / businesses into (illegal) function venues.
What if you lived next door to a guest house and this became a weekend activity?
What if you do not live next door to a guest house and suddenly the neighbours sell, and you become the neighbour of a function venue?
How does this impact on residents who live next to or near a guest house / business that operates as a function venue?
Congestion: Your driveway and the entire balance of the road gets filled with parked cars.
Noise levels outside: These cars and catering vans come and go all the time, with hooting to wave their good-byes... at all hours of the night.
Noise levels inside: The noises made from within the venue is disturbing to the surrounding neighbours, ranging from loud music, birthday songs, wedding songs and church services.
Privacy: Weekends of privacy, peace and quiet suddenly become the same hustle and bustle that you will find with city living. If we wanted to live in the city, we would have done so.
Property: The visitors do not respect your and your neighbours property or the public property of the area, so litter and erosion becomes evident. In our case, the fynbos has been hacked away to make way for luscious green lawns for people to get married on. Treading on and driving over your irrigation becomes a regular problem.
Aesthetics: Having your road filled with busses, cars and catering vans every weekend makes for an unpleasant sight at all times.
Needless to say, none of these guilty venues have ever been stopped.
We as the Residents of Sunset Beach would like to urge you to sign this petition if you oppose to this form of activity taking place - now and for the future.
