Stop extinction of endangered Lynx, Wolverine, Wolf and Bear in Norway

  • by: Sturla Bang

Norway holds 313 Lynx in the wild. Annually up to 50% of the population is cut down. Populations of Wolverine, Wolf and Bear are miniscule and regularly hunted despite being nominally protected. The concept "sustainable" is used down to one breeding female. Help to obtain a viable population of natural predators in all areas of the large wildernesses in Norway, as is fitting one of the wealthiest and sparsest populated nations on earth.

Please help hold Norway in tune with all the nations in the world that work hard to reintroduce and keep full eco-systems that includes predators. The unnatural lack of predators in Norwegian fauna is detrimental to all chains in the eco system. As one of the wealthiest nations in the world as well as one of the sparsest populated, there are no unsurmountable problems in having viable nationwide populations of Lynx, Wolverine, Wolf and Bear. Stop the regional extinction of predators!

Update #38 years ago
Thanks to all who have signed, please keep passing it on. This winter 49 Wolverine have been felled in licenced hunts in Norway. The total population was 340 individuals in 2014.
The population of Lynx have decreased further, the last count before this years hunt was 300 individuals. It has been opened up for the felling of 87 lynx in this years hunt.
Update #29 years ago
3 breeding wolf family packs. This is the total national goal for this critically threatened species set by the Norwegian government. The most recent counts indicate the existence of 30 wolves in Norway, nationwide. This unsustainably low number is barely maintained, both because of sanctioned hunting and aggressive poaching. Please help pass on the message that this is not acceptable in any country. Protecting biodiversity is a global responsibility, not a national issue!
Update #19 years ago
Official numbers claims that Norway has 343 Wolverines, about 50 Wolves, 313 Lynx and 148 Brown Bear. It is self evident that this is not nearly enough to ensure strong and viable prescence of these endangered species in their natural habitat. Help spread the word to ensure these populations grow and survive in the wild!
