Utah – Escalate Animal Cruelty Laws, Charges & Penalties that protect all Animals

  • by: Sue Lee
  • recipient: Utah State Legislators

Animal cruelty is not a strange occurrence throughout the state of Utah, such as the frequent abuse of horses found dead and/or frozen due to the actions of their owners.  Other cases involved dog fighting, animal torture, neglect and more.  Unless laws, charges and penalties for crimes against animals are tougher, the abuse will never end.  Read more at  http://www.apainc.org/wp-content/uploads/Utah-Animal-Cruelty-Summary.pdf, https://www.animallaw.info/statute/ut-cruelty-consolidated-cruelty-statutes along with nationwide laws at http://www.straypetadvocacy.org/PDF/AnimalCrueltyLaws.pdf.

The proposal is that any and all crimes of animal abuse, cruelty and neglect or abandonment be classified as a felony with appropriate penalties.  Penalties should include no less than longer jail sentences, higher fees, possible acts of community service hours and also being placed on an animal cruelty registry to be shared nationwide with anyone within the animal industry such as sales, care, breeding and treatment. Additionally, such abusers need to be banned for lifetime of working with, caring for or owning animals for the rest of their lives. There shouldn’t be any second chances because it must be common knowledge that abusing an animal, just like abusing a human is wrong and unjust.  There is never a reason to intentionally harm an animal.

The purpose of this petition is to urge the Utah State Legislators to implement and strictly enforce much tougher animal cruelty laws, charges and penalties, with all animal crimes being listed as a felony with stiff repercussions.  You can lend your support by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments in favor of animal protection.

Utah State Legislators – Animals need someone to be their voice and protection and the only way is by implementing tougher charges to defend & shelter them from harm. There shouldn’t be any second chances because it must be common knowledge that abusing an animal, just like abusing a human is wrong and unjust.  There is never a reason to intentionally harm an animal.
