76 Grant St - Demand For Removal of Unlicensed Drivers of Scooters, Harrassmanet and Intimidation

Signees of this petition have been directly or indirectly affected by continued, unlawful use of motorized scooters that drive in excessive speeds, driven by unlicensed and underaged youth on Grant St in Milford, CT. The same group of young 12 - 15 year old males regularly block and make it difficult to pass safely on the street at 76 Grant St due to a basketball stand that they use at that address. They taunt, curse and use obscene gestures for those of us who drive carefully and slowly on the street, have bumped up against cars on occasion or thrown basketballs over cars to the basket as we pass. The father of the boy at 76 Grant St has initiated 'drag races' for the scooters and has used intimidation tactics and obscene language against neighbors as well. None of the youth are of legal driving age and they wear no protective helmet and ride double much of the time. Police have been called by a number of neighbors at different times with no change in behavior from the area of 76 Grant St and Oakdale Ave - where many of the boys come from to meet at 76 Grant St. The State of CT statute for 'motor-drive cycles' is clear that one must possess a valid CT drivers license and if under 18 years of age - must wear a helmet. This is attached to our petition.

There are a number of videos showing the unlawful activity by the father/resident of 76 Grant St and as many as six other underaged drives including his son. These videos can be produced for the petition recipients if necessary.

Additionally - this is a situation where CT DCF should be involved - as parents are neglecting to properly protect or limit their underaged drivers from participating in unlawful acts, putting them and the general public at risk for serious injury, property damage or even death.
