Save the Dart House

If you believe that the 137 year old Dart House is historically significant to the city of Brunswick in both its structure AND the land it sits upon please sign this petition. We are asking the Mayor and Commissioners to move forward in the process to locally designate the house.

Here is what life long Glynn County resident, 92 year old Bob Dart Brown, writes about the house he was born and raised in:

The Dart House is all that remains of the original W.R. Dart homestead, small farm, shipways where vessels were built to serve the lumber trade in the 1800’s. Urbanus Dart, owned much of the Brunwsick Penninsula and was responsible for development of Brunswick after the Yellow Fever Epidemic. It should be designated a historic structure relating to the early development of Brunswick. It was the first home built on the east side of the penninsula.

This 137 year old home is the only clue to passer bys that historic Brunswick exists just down the road. The house should be a nucleus of activity for the revitalization of downtown. It’s withstood the tidal wave of 1898, numerous hurricanes, seen two world wars and a major highway being built in its front yard. When Highway 17 was built Dart Creek was destroyed along with the Dart Bathing Complex that was a main recreational facility for Brunswick. Thank goodness the large oak was spared where Sidney Lanier penned “The Marshes of Glynn” while visiting with my Uncle Jake (former Mayer of Brunswick, and legislator).
