I'm single parent who works and pays her taxes in this country. My local council sent my debt letter saying that I owe the £5000 which I was not aware of, its not right for the council to let the debt pile up. Single parents don't have any savings. The council needs to change the law when it comes to single mothers when they know we owe more than £250 debt towards our rent, they need to send letters so that the debt is not high in this kind of situations what often happens is that we become depressed and it affects the children, that is the last thing we need. The local Council is here to help us but what is happening is that they make everything difficult.
