West Loop Parents - Help Bring a STEM Lab to Skinner West!

We are excited to announce that Friends of Skinner West was recently identified as the potential recipient of an approximate $175,000 payment through the Neighborhood Opportunity Bonus Fund. The Neighborhood Opportunity Bonus Ordinance allows developers to pay into a Bonus Fund, where 10% of their payment goes to support improvements within one mile of their development.

Friends of Skinner West was contacted by the developers of the Union West site, ZOM Living, who asked us to put together various proposals for this bonus if their project was approved. Additionally, the developers are committing $75,000 out of their own pocket to support Friends of Skinner West.

Our proposed ideas to use the bonus fund and donation include building a STEM lab within the school and adding new after-school programming such as coding, robotics, or fitness classes.

We feel this is a great opportunity for our school to recoup some of the $365,000 in budget cuts that we have lost over the past two years. Skinner West is a neighborhood school in which 25% of the children served are living at or below poverty. There is no more important investment than one in our children, their education and their future.

Please sign this petition to show your support for the full amount of the $175,000 local impact fund being earmarked for our children's education and future.
