These Woodland areas are necessary for the existence of Wildlife and Fauna that harbor there. Because of progress and new development in Kent, 32 hectares of ancient forest are to be felled.

The Forest Commission states that there are an ample amount of trees planted to provide for wildlife but they are the “wrong type of forestry” according to the Woodland Trust. We need to encourage more accurate records of valuable ancient woodlands be kept. Literally 400 ancient woodlands are under threat across the UK.

Gradual attrition, housing and commercial development, road improvements, and infrastructure projects continue to threaten the ancient woodlands. With new growth and woodland plantings, there is no systematic recording of how much ancient woodland loss exists. This is due to inadequate recording of woodland lost as a result of development. The majority of woodland and tree losses arising from development are consented through the planning system. Still, there is no comprehensive recording of losses on either a local or national basis. Records are rarely kept of the outcome of individual applications or attempts made to collate the impact on trees and woodland, making it nearly impossible to know how much ancient woodland has been lost and is being lost to development.

Ancient Woodlands need to be monitored more accurately to allow for the possibility that the areas will be restocked with proper trees that benefit the fauna and wildlife throughout the UK. A spokesman for the Forestry Commission "The National Forest Inventory will be the most accurate inventory of our forest resources we have ever produced, and provide a great baseline to work from as we move forward.” We need to encourage better records to see the areas they wish to see developed and those to be protected. Ancient Woodlands are imperative for the environment and the wildlife.

Forest Commission and Ministry for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)It is important that you keep more accurate records regarding the loss of the ancient woodlands throughout the UK. With the new planting of trees, their numbers have doubled but the problem is that these new forests, often consisting of non-native conifers, are what the Woodland Trust says are the "wrong type of forest.” Records are lacking to document just how much of the ancient woodlands are lost. Despite new developments, these woodlands are imperative for the environment and wildlife.
