Make Battle of Britain Day a national holiday

The Battle of Britain is quite simply the most important battle Britain has ever fought in its long and turbulent history. Against a German air force twice the size which had already destroyed the air forces of Poland, Czechoslovakia and France, Britain's RAF was victorious, ensuring Britain remained free and unmolested by Nazi tyranny. Had we lost, as we so easily could have done, the planned full scale German invasion of our island would have taken place, and Britain in all probability would have suffered defeat by the Nazis with consequences that are too awful to imagine. Furthermore, a British defeat would have made it extremely unlikely that America would have entered the war, as no UK bases would have been available from which to operate, and supplies and weapons could not have been sent via the northern passage to aid the USSR's war effort against Hitler's armies, The result of WW2 would therefore have been very different. A German victory would have meant the annihilation of the Jewish and Slavic peoples and the enslavement under Fascism of the entire European continent, including Britain, whilst a Soviet victory may well have ended with a Europe under Communist Dictatorship all the way to the Atlantic.

It can be seen then that Britain's victory over Germany in the Battle of Britain not only saved our Parents and our Grandparents from certain invasion, it also saved the world. No other single event in our long history comes anywhere close to matching the monumental significance of our victory in the Battle of Britain, and September 15th, the day in 1940 when the German Luftwaffe's back was broken, should be a national holiday so that future generations never forget the importance of this day, for Britain, and for the world.
