Egyptian government: don’t ban independent civil organizations

Egyptian civil society is mortally wounded. After the period of instability following the Arab Spring, Al Sisi's government has been repressing any manifestation of social discontent during the past year with an iron fist. And now the Egyptian government wants to give a mortal blow to the plurality of their country by passing a law that outlaws independent civil organizations, subordinating their work and their financing control to Government authorities.

Having a strong and independent civil society is essential to guarantee the freedoms, rights and democratic pluralism in any country. If the Egyptian government finally approves this legislation it will condemn the Egyptians to an oppressive situation, where, in addition to stlifing freedoms, progress and economic growth won’t be able to flourish.

We still have time to stop this law. Sign this petition to ask the Egyptian government to oppose any law to ban independent civic groups.

Please, don't pass a new law to ban independent civil organizations.
