INVEST INTO TRAFFIC LIGHTS!

The injustice that I will be representing today is not having traffic lights at dangerous roads and intersections. For example on Trans-Canada Hwy, which is a highway in Calgary, AB, there are three intersections in a row. Now out of those 3 intersections only 1 intersection has traffic lights! However, that one intersection with the traffic lights, isn't completely safe. Lots of car accidents tend to happen there too because the turn you have to take to get onto the highway is very LONG. Sometimes people misjudge the distance which might be what causes these crashes. On the other 2 highways with no traffic lights, there is lots of things wrong with it. Such as car accidents because no one knows when they can go, you might have to stay there very long time because you have to wait for all the other cars to pass by. Which leads me to the conclusion intersections are pretty dangerous to begin with, but intersections without traffic lights are ten times worse. These intersections can sometimes be DEADLY and could possibly take some lives away or result in some serious injuries. And the reason this problem isn't being dealt with immediately is because the City of Calgary doesn't have the budget to invest into getting some traffic lights. Traffic signals are much more costly than is commonly realized. A modern signal can cost between $80,000 and $100,000 to install, depending on how complex the intersection and the characteristics of the traffic within. On top of this, there is the cost of the electrical power consumed in operating a intersection 24 hours a day. This cost now averages about $1,400 per year. Traffic lights can also filter traffic to spread out the incoming flow instead of letting it jam. Although there is a lot is things and steps that go into installing and operating traffic lights, it is still better than thousands of innocent lives being in danger.
