A young dog is currently being treated by an Oklahoma shelter and veterinarian after a group of construction workers reported seeing the canine being dragged by a car Tuesday morning.

The skin was torn off Simpson's back - practically raw to the bone after it appears he was dragged behind a vehicle.
Construction crews rescued the dog  and took him to the Free to Live Animal Sanctuary.

Matt Goodwin at Free to Live says

"It was just disgusting, you don't know how someone could do this. What would motivate someone to do this? He is a good-natured dog, a sweet dog. It was just heartbreaking."

Deputy Chief Richard Stephens with the Logan County Sheriff's Office says if and when do they catch up with the perpetrator, he will be facing felony animal cruelty charges.

"The suspect has  been known to be at a certain convenience store every morning for coffee, and we are going to be waiting for him, hoping to make contact with him," says Stephens.
