President Rajoy: We have the right to die with dignity

  • by: Fabio Gandara
  • recipient: Mariano Rajoy, President of the Spanish Government

Jose Antonio Arrabal, a Spanish man seriously affected by ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) decided to end his life in April 2017. Unfortunately, no one could help him to do so: in Spain people cannot choose die on their own terms with assistance from a physician.

Forced to do it by himself, Jose Antonio had to move up his decision to commit suicide while he still had mobility in his hands. He was also forced to buy the drugs online without any guarantees, increasing the risk of error or of enduring a slow and painful death.

It's time for people like Jose Antonio to freely decide to end their life with dignity, with the help of professionals who can make this delicate process easier and more bearable. It's time to regulate the right to die in Spain.

Sign now to ask the Government of Spain to pass a law regulating the right to die with dignity, decriminalizing all kinds of altruistic help given to those who responsibly, clearly and thoughtfully choose to end their suffering.

Please, pass a law regulating the right to die with dignity, decriminalizing all kinds of altruistic help given to those who responsibly, clearly and thoughtfully don’t want to live in a painful and unworthy situation.
