Support the Independence of Kabinda

The Republic of Kabinda (Cabinda) was declared independent in 1975 but forcibly occupied by the Angolan and Cuban military forces that same year. Kabinda has a separate history, geography and culture from Angola and was formerly known as the Portuguese Congo. Chevron Oil and Angola’s ruling MPLA Party have extracted billions of dollars in oil from Kabinda for their own benefit. The people of Kabinda want only their own country and freedom to form their own government promised to them by the Organization of African Unity and Portugal.

The Republic of Kabinda Government in Exile is seeking 100,000 signatures in support of Kabinda’s long delayed independence. Upon achieving this goal, the petition will be simultaneously presented to the United Nations General Assembly, African Union Pan-African Parliament, European Union Parliament and the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic for action on the establishment of an internationally monitored independence referendum for Kabinda.

Let voice of the people of Kabinda be heard, you can support independence and freedom for Kabinda by signing this petition and distributing it in Kabinda, Angola, Portugal and worldwide.

We have the honor to address you today to expose "The Case of Kabinda".
This is a crucial problem of the sovereignty of a people seeking to free themselves from the Angolan colonialist yoke. The situation in Kabinda is one of the hot spots that shake the political foundations of Central Africa, despite the bad faith and the guilty silence surrounds this issue.

Kabinda is in flames because its territories, maritime and land, contain three-quarters of  all Angolan oil reserves. There are also deposits of phosphates, manganese, gold, diamonds, and uranium not yet exploited. The great Mayombe forest contains the best quality tropical wood. The real reason for the annexation of Kabinda to Angola is the oil that supports Angola’s MPLA and whose revenues are shared with Chevron, Total-Fina, and Agip.

The Kabindan people like Southern Sudan, will decide their fate through a referendum on self-determination. The Kabindan people have the right to life and existence on its own sovereign territory and its own culture.

We ask only for the most basic of human rights, the right to exist.
