North Hempstead: Don't Euthanize Geese!

Town leaders in North Hempstead, New York, are considering plans to euthanize the invasive Canada Geese population, mainly to control the unsightly and messy droppings they leave.

Though many parkgoers may sympathize with the annoyance of seeing and stepping in these droppings, killing their source is not a humane solution. Wildlife advocates have proposed cruelty free alternatives that can reduce geese as well as their droppings. These alternatives include feeding the geese OvoControl G contraceptives, oiling eggs to prevent hatching, educating the public against feeding wild birds, and using machinery to sweep away goose droppings and turn them into compost.

Please sign the petition to urge North Hempstead Officials to control Canada geese permanently through cruelty-free solutions rather than the inhumane and temporary euthanasia plan.

We, the undersigned, are concerned with your plans to euthanize the invasive Canada Geese population, mainly to control the unsightly and messy droppings they leave.

Though many parkgoers may sympathize with the annoyance of seeing and stepping in these droppings, killing their source is not a humane or permanent solution.

We respectfully urge you to control North Hempstead's Canada geese permanently through cruelty-free solutions rather than the inhumane and temporary euthanasia plan. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
