Premier of South Africa’s North West province should be prosecuted for animal cruelty.

When it became known that caged farm animals on the farm of Ms Thandi Modise - the premier of South Africa's North West province - had died the most horrific of deaths due to her and her staff’s failure to provide them with any food or water she told the press “The suffering the animals endured does not compare to the financial loss I suffered.”

She furthermore tried to downplay the reports of the animal cruelty on her farm - which a local SPCA worker had described as the worst farm cruelty he had come across in twenty years - as political opportunism on the side of her numerous critics.

It is not acceptable for any owner of a farm to be cruel to his animals.  When a high profile politician in the South African Government is guilty of such inhumane practices it is no different.  She is not above the law.

She should be held accountable and be prosecuted for the terrible suffering she had caused to defenseless animals - regardless of her social status or even personal financial losses.

One of Ms Modise’s famous countrymen Mahatma Gandhi once said “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

Therefore please ask President Zuma and his government not to sweep this under the carpet and let this cruelty and moral bankruptcy go unpunished.
