South Carolina – Escalate Animal Cruelty Charges & Penalties to Protect Animals

  • by: Sue Lee
  • recipient: South Carolina State Legislators

Unless crucial steps are taken immediately, animals will continue to fall victim to cruelty and abuse by humans without a heart, conscience or respect of these living beings.  It is sad that so many considered animals as objects without feelings and literally enjoy harming them.  Furthermore, such people fail to teach children early on how to love, care for and respect animals. Developing proper reverence for these defenseless being need to start with the youth across our nation.

South Carolina has made some strides in protecting animals; yet they are gravely lacking in making an impact and stop the abuse.  Read more at https://www.charlestonanimalsociety.org/fight-animal-cruelty/, with further info at http://www.live5news.com/story/21193194/south-carolina-animal-cruelty-laws-filled-with-exceptions-and-loopholes, http://www.straypetadvocacy.org/PDF/AnimalCrueltyLaws.pdf. We need to do more to make a difference in the lives of animals without their own voices.  The proposal is that any and all crimes of animal abuse, cruelty and neglect or abandonment be classified as a felony with appropriate penalties.  Penalties should include no less than longer jail sentences, higher fees, possible acts of community service hours and also being placed on an animal cruelty registry to be shared nationwide with anyone within the animal industry such as sales, care, breeding and treatment. Additionally, such abusers need to be banned for lifetime of working with, caring for or owning animals for the rest of their lives. There shouldn’t be any second chances because it must be common knowledge that abusing an animal, just like abusing a human is wrong and unjust.

South Carolina has had issues with animal abuse and cruelty, dog fighting, seizure of dogs and skeletal remains, along with other horrifying cases.  The purpose of this petition is to urge the South Carolina State Legislators to escalate their charges and penalties for all forms of animal cruelty, abuse, neglect and/or abandonment to ensure strict felony charges with stiff penalties as listed above.  You can support this issue by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own comments and thoughts regarding animal protection.

South Carolina State Legislators – With the ongoing issues affecting poor defenseless animals throughout your state, it is crucial that steps be taken to protect them. There is never any reason to harm an animal and humans need to take a stand in protecting them.
