Syria has been using child soldiers as young as 15 in battle. Some of these child soldiers are recruited by deceptively offering education. These children have already seen the effects of war first hand by witnessing deaths of family members and friends, as well as destruction of their schools and communities. Now, these child soldiers are facing dangerous missions such as suicide bombing.
Canada currently offers aid to Syria, which means this country could play an important role in stopping the use of child soldiers. Canada could refuse aid to military groups in Syria that enlist child soldiers. A thorough review of organizations Canada is currently offer aid to would also be suggested, so the ages of soldiers could be verified.
