On March 1, 2014, Brian Stewart and his teenage sons Erik and Tyler were enjoying their
annual snow camping trek trip near Granite Meadows, Ore., when they heard frantic barks.
The teenagers investigated and expected to find a dog playing in the snow with his owner,
but instead they found and exhausted and lonely Airedale terrier trapped in more than 3 ft. of snow.
The three men from Pendleton, Ore., knew they couldn’t leave the four-legged friend stranded in the snow, and that is why Brian Stewart asked his sons to head back
to camp and bring a sled to rescue the pet.
Once back and safe at camp the Stewart family warmed up the pet inside one of their tents
with a portable heater. They also offered the tired dog some food and water.
“I got the dog to the creek to get him some water,” Brian told StatesmanJournal.com.
“He was drinking the water like he hadn’t seen it in days. Then he was hurting
and so tired he could not make it out of the creek.”
After some time, the dog started to feel better all thanks to the cozy heat and food
the Stewart family offered him. The stranded and lost was later taken to a friend’s farm
near Birch Creek, where he is being looked after, and since his rescue,
the three hero men have been trying to locate the dog’s rightful owners.
“This dog fought hard through 3 ft. of snow for a few days,” said Brian. “He has a right to his owner.”
