Homeowners" Petition Against An Unguarded Third Gate

As a homeowner we are concerned with both the value of our property and the security which our home provides.

A gated community, which is guarded, increases the value of our home substantially over a similar home located in an area without guarded gates. Such a situation not only tends to maintain the value of the home, but serves to enhance the future value of the home due to the fact that gated and guarded communities are indeed a rarity. The guarded gate community sets our home far above the other homes in the marketplace.

A criminal chooses the path of least resistance. The criminal will look for the home that is not in a gated and guarded community long before attempting to victimize those living in a community with gates and guards. Furthermore, the criminal will choose to victimize the retired because of the perception that the retired is less than able to resist his attack. We have many retirees in Pelican Bay and wish to maintain the highest degree of security and safety for ourselves and our neighbors.

Therefore, if an unguarded third gate is installed, the criminal will have an access that offers no resistance to them. They can enter without notice and victimize us. Then can make their escape on Williamson and leave the area quickly and without detection. The affluence of Pelican Bay residents as perceived by criminals will make us a target for their activities. Furthermore, our properties' value will be effected negatively.

For these and other reasons we strongly protest the installation of a third gate without twenty four (24) hour and seven (7) day a week guards.
