Tell Supermarket Chain: Don't Sell Reindeer Meat for Christmas!

Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG, a German supermarket chain with over 10,000 locations in Europe, is planning to sell £7.99 Siberian reindeer steaks for the Christmas season. Worse, the animals used for their meat are young calves who are herded by helicopter or snowmobiles, lassoed, and dragged onto trucks for slaughter. Siberian reindeer would naturally live to 15 years.

Selling reindeer meat puts a damper on Christmas spirit and is especially disturbing to children who associate reindeer with Rudolph, Twas the Night Before Christmas, and other classic Christmas stories and songs. Despite demand for reindeer meat, it is unfair to spoil the season for others with the display of such meat in a major supermarket chain, especially when the meat is obtained in such an inhumane fashion. Please sign the petition to tell Lidl not to sell Reindeer meat for Christmas!

We understand that Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG is planning to sell £7.99 Siberian reindeer steaks for the Christmas season. As you may know, the animals used for their meat are young calves who are herded by helicopter or snowmobiles, lassoed, and dragged onto trucks for slaughter. We believe that selling reindeer meat puts a damper on Christmas spirit and is especially disturbing to children who associate reindeer with Rudolph, Twas the Night Before Christmas, and other classic Christmas stories and songs. Despite demand for reindeer meat, it is unfair to spoil the season for others with the display of such meat in a major supermarket chain, especially when the meat is obtained in such an inhumane fashion. We respectfully urge you to end your plans to sell reindeer meat for Christmas!
