A Petetion to Amend The United States Constitution to Promote Fair and Equal Ballot Access

Nearly half of all Americans identify as Independent Voters, and less than 1/4 of all Americans identify as a member of 1 of the two major parties in this country.  Yet the major parties have cooperatively enacted laws that virtually guarantee that only members of one of their parties can ever get elected in the great majority of public offices in the United States.  These laws grant special advantages to candidates running on one of the major party tickets while imposing significant barriers to independent or smaller party candidates.  This is not fair and this is not just and this is not at all in keeping with the views and values of the founders of our great nation.

Why should one candidate by virtue of their association be granted special privelege or special access to the ballot?  Shouldn't all candidates regardless of their political affiliation have to go through the exact same process to get elected?  Candidates should represent the will of the majority of the people not the special interests of a specific political faction.  Such is the essence of a truly representative democracy (a.k.a a Republic).

This petition is to amend the constitution with the following ammendent:

"Neither Congress or the individual states shall pass or allow to exist any law which grants special advantage to a candidate for public office by virtue of their association, or affiliation with a political party or faction.  All candidates, regardless of their political affiliation or association, who run for public office must adhere to the same process and and abide by the same rules and procedures.  All such rules and procedures must require that all candidates perform the same steps and meet the same qualifications in order to qualify for access to any ballot or to run in any election without regard to their association with any organized faction, group or association."
