Ban All Commercial Seal Hunts in Namibia

The Cape fur seal also known as the brown seal is predominant along the coast line of southern Africa, congregating in numbers at a reserve area in Namibia.  They are inquisitive and friendly creatures but are in danger of harvesting and slaughter In Namibia.  Young pups are often killed for their luxurious furs while male adults are used for their genitalia, since many consider them to be an aphrodisiac. You can read more on the seal hunting issues that seem to continue in Namibia at http://www.ifaw.org/united-states/our-work/seals/protecting-seals-around-world?ms=UONDC160001072&cid=701F0000000SyAa

Since these animals are endangered, the IFAW is working attentively to protect the Cape fur seals in Namibia and save them from future hunts and slaughter.  In recent months, the beaches along the coast where they congregate has been a bloody scene due to commercial hunts and slaughter, killed in extremely inhumane methods.  As a result of such methods, animal welfare advocates are banned from witnessing and/or filming the seal hunts.

Our efforts in this petition is to target the Namibia government and strongly encourage a ban on any and all commercial seal hunts throughout the country.  Reportedly, commercial seal hunting has stopped in 1990 but seal pups and adult males are still at risk.  You can help us in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition that bans all killing of these animals in this country.

President of Namibia, Hage Gottfried Geingob – We strongly urge you to implement a countrywide ban on all commercial seal hunts in Namibia.  Despite the proposed end to such killings back in 1990, the male seals and young pups are still in danger of such horrific practices.  Please place a full ban on any and all killings, hunt and slaughter of seals throughout the country and save these animals from such untimely deaths.
