Ask Manatee County to Investigate Animal Sanctuary With Dead Dogs

Please sign and share this petition in an effort to get the Manatee County deputies and officials to do a thorough investigation of the Napier’s Log Cabin Horse and Animal Rescue where shallow graves of dogs were discovered. Although complaints came about a year ago, no one investigated the situation until recently. If an investigation was done sooner, maybe some of these animals would still be alive and possibly living with good owners.

An animal sanctuary is supposed to work for the good and betterment of animals; however, the Bradenton Animal sanctuary was found to have shallow graves on their property with at least 20 animal bodies. These findings came just days after cracking down on the Napier's Log Cabin Horse and Animal Rescue off State Road 64. This site was under investigation of animal abuse and fraud, removing about 300 animals from the deplorable facility.

On the grounds of the Bradenton Animal sanctuary, officials noted some areas that have been disturbed. When digging with a tractor, several shallow graves were noted with about 20 bodies of dead dogs and cats. The images of findings were quite distressing with evidence that those dead animals were present for several days. On the inside of the sanctuary, trash was noted in piles throughout, bugs everywhere and a horrendous stench. Animals within were also noted with a flea infestation, many of the animals adopted out with such problems.

County Commissioner Carol Whitmore stated "When we went out there, everything was fine but then come to find out, he has other properties that he would move animals to that. We didn't know." Commissioner Whitmore says every time animal services tried to get inside, they were told to set up an appointment. "We've been watching them throughout the years, but they've stayed under the radar to be in compliance," she said.

Although there have been complaints over the years, the sheriff’s office finally got involved and rescued the animals that they could. Although some deceased animals were found, 12 other dogs had to be euthanized because of their poor condition. Officials stated that the animals were all neglected. “Everyone was full of fleas, covered in feces. We have heartworm positive dogs, a blind dog, lots of skin conditions."

Obviously this sanctuary was working “under the table” that should never have been allowed. With better, stricter policies, some of the animals who lost their lives might have had a chance in life. Please sign and share this petition in an effort to get the Manatee County deputies and officials to do a thorough investigation of the Napier’s Log Cabin Horse and Animal Rescue where shallow graves of dogs were discovered. Along with an investigation, new policies need to be implemented so such a situation does not go unnoticed again, putting animals in peril.

Manatee County Deputies and Officials – It is unfortunate that this place continued business for another year before the sheriff’s office got involved to shut them down. Maybe if they were stopped sooner, some of the deceased beings would still be alive, happy and healthy. Please do a thorough investigation with new policies implemented for such places like those that are supposed to work for the good and betterment of animals to ensure that this type of situation does not go unnoticed again, putting so many animals in danger under the care of abusive people.
