Please sign and share this petition worldwide to encourage British Columbia to protect the gorgeous, fragile species of mountain caribou. Although they are a protected species throughout the United States, we need to ask Canada to guard their existence and prevent extinction.

The mountain caribou is a unique species that is adapted to the lush growth of forest, especially in temperate rainforests areas. They are considered to be one of the most endangered large mammals throughout North America, with small herds still lingering in various mountainous areas. The U.S. has deemed to protect those under the Species at Risk Act; however, Canada is not doing much to protect the mountain caribou and their habitat for existence.

British Columbia Biologists note a large drop in the number of mountain caribou and their survival rate. The South Selkirk herd from south east B.C. and northern USA is most at risk, with the numbers dropping from around 46 animals to less than 30. Biologist Leo DeGroot states that "This is the most southerly of the mountain caribou population, so if we lost the South Selkirk caribou population, the total range would contract significantly.”

No one knows for sure why the numbers of mountain caribou are declining so quickly but speculate some violations within their habitat areas. Canada needs to engage in more efforts to protect this endangered species of mammal, the mountain caribou, or they will quickly become extinct. Biologists and Wildlife Federation of the British of Columbia- The mountain caribou is a highly endangered species in your country, with numbers dwindling quickly to the point of extinction. This rare and beautiful mammal is under the Species at Risk Act, needing your help in safeguarding them and their habitat. Please implement and enforce laws throughout Canada that will guard and defend the existence of the mountain caribou, helping them to flourish and exist as they are meant to be in South Selkirk and other ranges.
