katy perry cruel to elephants

Take 2 or 3 paragraphs to describe this issue to readers: why it’s important, and why they should sign.

Katy Perry's new jungle–themed "Roar" music video features several wild animals, including an elephant who was caught in Africa at the age of 2 and who has spent 10 of the last 20 years living alone!

Animals used for entertainment often live chained or isolated in small, filthy cages and are deprived of physical and mental stimulation.Behind the scenes, trainers force them to perform under the constant threat of physical punishment.

dear katy perry
I was disappointed to see an elephant and other wild animals in your recent music video "Roar." Some people aren't aware that elephants used in the entertainment business are taken away from their families and natural habitats and beaten behind the scenes so that they will perform on demand. Susie, the elephant used in your video, was torn away from her home in Africa and imported when she was just 2 years old. She has spent 10 of the last 20 years living alone, which is especially cruel as elephants are extremely social animals. Now that you do know what these animals go through before they are brought onto a set, will you please pledge never to perform with animals again?

Animals used in the entertainment business have little to no legal protection. The American Humane Association is responsible for monitoring the on-set treatment of animals, but the organization has routinely allowed hideously cruel practices to continue.

There is no humane way to use elephants and other wild animals on screen. "Roar" has reached millions of people, and unfortunately, some of your fans have reportedly made plans to rent exotic animals to use in their own video renditions--putting even more animals and people in danger.

Please prevent more animal suffering by making the commitment, as other artists have, never to appear with exotic animals again.
