Let's Stand Together To Outlaw GMOs in North Carolina

In the past 50 years%2C people have been getting sicker and fatter. Why do you think that is%3F Hm... Could it be the food that we put into our bodies%3F Well%2C food isn't exactly the right word%2C but.. YES! It can be and it is. Genetically modified organisms%2C or GMOs%2C have been either genetically altered in some way (be it soil contamination%2C bacterium%2C viruses%2C etc) and these can be very bad for health. There is ample evidence pointing to this. For one%2C studies have been done on animals who were fed GMOs and the results may shock some of you. There were reports of the animals in these studies that showed the creatures ended up suffering from organ damage%2C gastrointestinal and immune system disorders%2C accelerated aging%2C and infertility. Yikes. We're mammals%2C too. Do you really want to put something in your body that can cause these effects%3F I know I don't. Another thing%3A GMOs are tolerant to things like RoundUp. The weed killer. Citing a paragraph from responsibletechnology.org%2C "Between 1996 and 2008%2C US farmers sprayed an extra 383 million pounds of herbicide on GMOs. Overuse of Roundup results in “superweeds%2C” resistant to the herbicide. This is causing farmers to use even more toxic herbicides every year. Not only does this create environmental harm%2C GM foods contain higher residues of toxic herbicides. Roundup%2C for example%2C is linked with sterility%2C hormone disruption%2C birth defects%2C and cancer." Geez.
But how can this stuff be legal%3F Surely%2C the FDA would look out for us%2C right%3F Nope. The FDA doesn't do squat. They don't even mandate the labeling of GMOs. And citing another paragraph from the website I mentioned%2C here is a statement about how GMOs harm the environment%3A "GM crops and their associated herbicides can harm birds%2C insects%2C amphibians%2C marine ecosystems%2C and soil organisms. They reduce bio-diversity%2C pollute water resources%2C and are unsustainable. For example%2C GM crops are eliminating habitat for monarch butterflies%2C whose populations are down 50% in the US. Roundup herbicide has been shown to cause birth defects in amphibians%2C embryonic deaths and endocrine disruptions%2C and organ damage in animals even at very low doses. GM canola has been found growing wild in North Dakota and California%2C threatening to pass on its herbicide tolerant genes on to weeds." Good grief!
Also%2C have you noticed how the rate of mental illness has skyrocketed in the past 20 years%3F Why might that be%3F GMOs%3F I think so. You know the term "brain food"%3F It's not a joke. The stuff we eat greatly effects our minds%2C too. And if you are pumping chemicals and whatnot into your body each day%2C it is going to effect your brain along with the rest of your body.
We%2C the people of America%2C and more specifically North Carolina%2C need to demand healthier food. Real food! The stuff we're eating now isn't even real. Think about it. Do you really want to put these kinds of things in your bodies%3F Or in your children's bodies%3F That's right. Even baby food is chock full of GMOs nowadays. It's ridiculous. If we can band together%2C if you lovely people will sign this petition to outlaw GMOs in North Carolina%2C maybe we can create a snowball effect to ban them in other states. Maybe together%2C you and me can help set the rest of the country on the path to increased longevity%2C as well as better physical and mental health.
