STOP THE SLAUGHTER OF KITTENS AND PUPPIES AT THE LONG BEACH ANIMAL SHELTER

  • by: Abby Belkin
  • recipient: BOB FOSTER, MAYOR OF LONG BEACH

The Long Beach Animal Shelter was built as a "No Kill" facility, but the truth is they've killed 41000 cats and dogs in the last six years. 82% of all adult cats & kittens that come in and 32% of all adult dogs and puppies. Their adoption rate is in the low single digits. The mission of a No Kill shelter is to get the cats and dogs in their care adopted, but it must be much easier to kill them. This kind of callousness usually has the evil stink of money behind it. Who is benefitting from this? Volunteers have tried and tried to get this policy changed but Long Beach officials have turned a blind eye, allowing the slaughter to continue. Shelter volunteers are not allowed to feed the inmates or walk the dogs, which is standard procedure in most shelters. They are however, allowed to READ TO THEM, before they die. The following report by Stayin Alive Long Beach lays out the horrifying statistics in an easy to read format. Please sign and share, and if you have ideas of how to fight this battle, or connections in the media or high places, we'd like you to share this with them. http://www.stayinalive.org/uploads/1/2/13/12139294stayinalivelongbeachreport_2013.pdf
