IT’S THE LAW: COMPLY WITH TWO-THIRDS GENDER RULE

Climate Change is a global phenomenon, and its impacts are real in Kenya. Scientists predict that the increasing frequency of extreme weather, such as drought and flooding among other drastic climatic changes, will become more severe in coming years.

Kenya is on the right track following the enactment of the Climate Change Act 2016. To ensure its full implementation, including active participation of women who are the most affected, PLEASE consider nominating them to the National Climate Change Council.

The Constitution of Kenya provides for legislative and other measures to implement the principle that not more than two-thirds of the members of elective or appointive bodies shall be of the same gender. As you embark on nominating members to the National Climate Change Council please nominate WOMEN to this decision making body.

KFWG, EAWLS, Gender and Climate Change Working Group STRONGLY URGES you to:
• Comply with the two-third gender rule
• Enhance Climate Change Council institutional capacity and sector linkage
• Fast-track the implementation of the Climate Change Act 2016
