On October 24, 2016, several volunteers sarched the river for the body of Joplin (pictured on left). A week prior, Joplin was stabbed 11 times (among other injuries) and thrown over a balcony while witnesses and her human mom, Christina Collins, watched helplessly. Joplin was then taken to a river where she was ran over with an SUV before being thrown over an embankment and into the river by her once trusted & former owner Derek Lahr. Once her body was found, she was taken by the Humane Society to have an autopsy.
The perpetrator is now seeking custody of Adorie (pictured on right), who witnessed this brutal murder. Considering the reputation that has been placed on Pit Bulls, he is attempting to use that to his advantage, saying that Joplin "turned into a beast" and was a danger to those around her. Mr. Lahr posted his version of a "confession" on Facebook admitting to killing Joplin. The police department, DA and the HSUS has received copies of the autopsy detailing the multiple injuries inflicted upon Joplin and his confession - yet no charges have been.
Adorie also suffered cuts to the back of her neck during the brutal murder of Joplin. She now trembles and runs when she sees a knife and has become fearful around males. She was abandoned by the perpetrator after the murder for several weeks but once the story had been exposed, he hired an attorney in attempts to regain custody and deny allegations of cruelty. Mr. Lahr continues to harass Ms. Collins and clearly believes he was justified in his horrific actions.
We have set up this petition so that we can get JUSTICE FOR JOPLIN & to ensure the safety of Adorie so that she gets to stay with her RIGHTFUL owner, Christina Collins. We implore the District Attorney, Police Chief, and the HSUS to pursue charges against this man immediately. What he did was not justified.
This man does NOT deserve to own another animal!

Dear District Attorney Dan Armstrong & Police Chief Jeff Jackson;
In light of evidence in your posession which includes a confession by Mr. Lahr to the Mount Carmel Police Department, a Facebook post on his page admitting he killed Joplin and the necropsy report you received from The University of Tennessee, and photos of Joplin's body plus the crime scene we request that charges of animal cruelty be placed against Derek Adam Lahr for the brutal murder of Joplin. We further request that Mr. Lahr be forbidden from owning another animal.
