Urge North Carolina to Stiffen Their Animal Cruelty Laws and Charges to all Felonies

  • by: Sue Lee

In order to control all crimes against animals and impact society, laws in their protection needs to be more stringent with strict and fully enforced accountability.  Currently, laws and charges, like those in North Carolina are much too lenient to ensure animals are safe. North Carolina legislators have made some strides in raising penalties for some of the worst cases of animal abuse. My proposal is to ensure that any and all crimes involving defenseless animals be charged with Class B felonies and stiff penalties such as longer jail sentences, higher fees, possibly acts of community service hours and also being placed on an animal cruelty registry to be shared nationwide with anyone within the animal sales, care, breeding and treatment. Additionally, such abusers need to be banned for lifetime working with, caring for or owning animals for the rest of their life. There shouldn’t be any second chances because it should be common knowledge that abusing an animal, just like abusing a human is wrong and unjust.

The premise is that by increasing the laws, charges and penalties for animal cruelty, people will think twice before harming these creatures just as they would most often think of hurting people. It has often been documented that there is a distinct connection between animal cruelty and human violence.  Offenders should never be given a second chance, either because everyone knows wrong from right and there is nothing acceptable in harming an animal in any manner.  The purpose of this petition is to urge North Carolina Legislators to move forward with stiffer animal cruelty laws, felony charges and strict penalties.  You can help with this proposal by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments regarding the protection of animals.

North Carolina State Legislators – I strongly urge you to move forward with your plans to raise penalties for some of the worst cases of animal abuse. Strict measurements need to be taken and fully enforced in order to put an end to such animal cruelty.
