DEMAND SAFE DRINKING WATER IN THE GREAT LAKES

Everyone in Michigan, Wisconsin, Canada and the entire U.S, either drink the water from our wonderful Great Lakes or fish in them. Our great lakes have the following elements (toxins) and we are drinking it, giving it to our children, and growing our own food with it.

•Chlordane- effecting our Salmon and the health risks are: effects our digestive and nervous systems, our liver functions, can cause seizures, DEATH, headaches, confusion, vomiting, stomach cramps, vision problems, and general malaise. It’s been put together with the large masses of Diabetes and thyroid issues.
•DDT and metabolites- effects the nervous system. It causes seizures, tremors, .sweating, headache, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness
•Dieldrin-effects human estrogen-sensitive cells, nervous system. It causes seizures, tremors, .sweating, headache, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness
•Dioxins and furans- Effects the AUTOIMMUNE SYSTEM. A non-significant increase in mortality from liver and biliary cancer and a significant increase in mortality from cerebrovascular disease has been observed in workers involved in the production of DDT. There is some evidence to suggest that DDT may be suppressive to the immune system, possibly by depressing humoral immune responses. Perinatal administration of weakly estrogenic pesticides such as DDT produces estrogen-like alterations of reproductive development, and there is also limited data that suggest a possible association between organochlorines, such as DDT and its metabolite DDE, and the risks of breast cancer.
•Mercury (Hg) and methylmercury- effects fetuses, infants, and children and it affects a baby's growing brain and nervous system, . cognitive thinking, memory, attention, language, and fine motor and visual spatial skills have been seen in children exposed to methylmercury in the womb and it also CAUSES CANCER!!!
•Metals: alkylated lead, nickel, copper, zinc, cadmium
•Mirex- Causes INFLAMMATION and it is toxic for a range of aquatic organisms. It's health effects are: stomach, intestine, liver, kidneys, eyes, thyroid, and nervous and reproductive systems. Mirex can cause liver, adrenal gland, and kidney tumors. Mirex may harm reproduction and development in rodents. High-level exposures may result in miscarriage.
•Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs)- effects of these are nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, joint pain, fatigue and skin problems, weakness
•Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)- immune system, reproductive system, nervous system, endocrine system and other health effects such as fatigue, nausea, and joint pain.
•Sediment and suspended solids- High TSS can block light from reaching submerged vegetation. As the amount of light passing through the water is reduced, photosynthesis slows down. Reduced rates of photosynthesis causes less dissolved oxygen to be released into the water by plants. If light is completely blocked from bottom dwelling plants, the plants will stop producing oxygen and will die. As the plants are decomposed, bacteria will use up even more oxygen from the water. Low dissolved oxygen can lead to fish kills. High TSS can also cause an increase in surface water temperature, because the suspended particles absorb heat from sunlight. This can cause dissolved oxygen levels to fall even further (because warmer waters can hold less DO), and can harm aquatic life in many other ways. Suspended sediment can also clog fish gills, reduce growth rates, decrease resistance to disease, and prevent egg and larval development. When suspended solids settle to the bottom of a water body, they can smother the eggs of fish and aquatic insects, as well as suffocate newly hatched insect larvae. Settling sediments can fill in spaces between rocks which could have been used by aquatic organisms for homes.
•Tritium- Beta radiation is a type of ionizing radiation. Ionizing refers to radiation that, when it passes through matter, has the potential to strip away electrons. When it passes through a human body, it can produce permanent changes in cells. There are three principal potential health effects: cancer, genetic effects and effects on fetuses.

It's in our best interest to grow our own food but we didn't know we were poisoning ourselves. How can we look our children in the face, knowing we are slowly killing them. I started this petition because I have an autoimmune disease myself called "Takayasu Arteritis". It's also called "Pulseless Disease". I am dying. It's causing my own immune system to attack my heart causing heart attacks, inflammation of my arteries, my joints and muscles, and even my vision.

There are over 50 million people in the U.S. that have autoimmune diseases. That's not counting all of the other illnesses I have listed above: just from drinking our own water. Please sign this petition and DEMAND a better solution to clean up our drinking water.
