Transform Pioneer Ball Park into a Functional Dog Park

The citizens of Marquette County are dog lovers but have no off leash area for their dogs. Consequently, we support developing the Pioneer Park location into an off leash Dog Park.

Pioneer Park is located just outside Marquette City proper but has easy access to the public off of County Road 553. The Park was formerly a ball park that was abandoned for the newer sports complex. It is fenced in and because it was formerly a ball park there is ample parking for patrons. There are a few cement blocks within the fence and a pile of gravel however, those things could be easily moved and the area would need to be mowed. It is not apparent whether there is a water source or electrical connectivity however, owners could very easily bring water for their dogs with them when visiting and if the park is only open during the day there is no need for electricity.

There is ample community support for the park. Additionally, it would be useful to transform an abandoned park into a working off leash Dog Park for the benefit of the Marquette community and the many visitors who travel with their dogs as well.
